Who We Are
Zion Lutheran is a small mountain congregation with a strong sense of community. We have a good mix of ages, families, and single folks. For several years now we have been a Reconciling in Christ congregation which means that we intentionally welcome and affirm people who identify as LGBTQ. We welcome everyone to worship and commune with us around Christ's table regardless of age, race, socio-economic or marital status, physical or mental capacities, gender identity or sexual orientation. Our congregation is a part of the Rocky Mountain Synod in a denomination called the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). To find out more about the ELCA, click here.

Our History |
We just celebrated our 121st anniversary! Zion became a congregation in the spring of 1896 as a group of Swedish immigrant miners started worshipping together. By 1897, the construction of the our current building at 1921 Virginia St. had been completed and housed weekly worship services. Our congregation has seen times of boom and bust and has been of service to the Idaho Springs community during both. In 2007 the building was officially designated as a historic preservation site of the City of Idaho Springs. We continue to partner with Loaves & Fishes, the local food pantry supported by churches in the community.
